HISTORY
Greg Gauthier is the winemaker and proprietor of Gauthier Cellars.

Officially speaking, Greg has spent most of his wine industry career on the sales and marketing side.
During his many years in the business, however, he has found his greatest joy and inspiration out in
the vineyard and inside the cellar. To further his interest and develop his winemaking knowledge, he
interned with Ted Seghesio of Seghesio Winery and took enology classes at UC Davis, then while in
Sales and Marketing for Rodney Strong Vineyards, Chalone Vineyards and its recently acquired
Acacia Vineyards, Greg found time in between his frequent business trips to accompany Rodney
Strong winemaker Rick Sayre, Chalone winemaker Dan Karlsen, and Acacia winemaker Michael
Terrien, in the cellar.

Currently at Bouchaine Vineyards, Greg does double time, first in his role as National Vice President
of Sales and Marketing, and just as importantly, in his pivotal Wine Production Advisor role that
provides the winery his feedback from the trade and consumer marketplace. His immersion in the
production side of Bouchaine wines also allows him to provide trade clients and consumers an
inside look at the fascinating world of winemaking. He works closely with Bouchaine winemaker
Michael Richmond and consultant Larry Brooks on a united vision for Bouchaine's wines and is
always collecting winemaking ideas and ideals to develop his own philosophy for his Gauthier wines.

Two ideals paramount to his winemaking philosophy are: his wines must be varietally true, and that
they must be distinctive of the place where the grapes were grown.

Gauthier Cellars was launched in 2000. Greg chose to use his own name on the bottle, sincere in his
conviction that the wine inside the bottle must be of exceptional quality and offer a taste experience
that turns heads and stops conversation; anything less, and it would be unfit to bear his name.

Early on in his career, Greg earned a nickname from those who worked with him-those who deeply
appreciated his commitment, trustworthiness, and sense of teamwork during business hours and his
larger-than-life personality and sense of fun and adventure at all times. This nickname, "G-Squared,"
came to symbolize a double dose of Greg's philosophy on life, and appropriately his Gauthier
Cellars wine is also known by this name.
